MgmtAgentsInstall - Msi execution failed!

Hi,

Failing installation of agents on a server. Installing via the VCA. VCA Log:

Command Line Parameters Given: /silent
Name: HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008
New Version: 8.50.0.0

Determining component installation state...
- Is operating system supported... Yes
- Is necessary disk space available... Yes
- Is hardware present... Yes
- Is component already installed... Yes
- Is component marked for removal... No
- Installed component version status... Older
- Checking dependency list... Done.

The software is installed but is not up to date.

Current Version: 8.30.0.0

- the component will be updated to the new version

Stopping agents... Done.
Removing web agent... Done.
Initiating installation...
- Checking for previous version... Older
Executing MSI... Failed!

The operation was not successful.

Also got the system event log attached as there seems to be something related. Here are some samples, view to whole log to see the chronology:

The Server Agents service encountered a fatal error. The service is terminating. The data contains the error code.

The HP Insight Foundation Agents service terminated with service-specific error 399 (0x18F).

The Server Agents service could not load the module "x %". The data contains the error code.

The Storage Agents service encountered a fatal error. The service is terminating. The data contains the error code.

Need some feedback on this. Points will be given.

Hi,

Can you run the .exe of this component,
Name: HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008
New Version: 8.50.0.0,
on the machine where you are facing problem via installation through VCA.

GUI of the MSI installer of this component may give more information if that execution fails..

Best practise is to update the entire PSP and not just the agents if that's what you're trying to do.
You can also drive this by running the setup.exe delivered as part of the PSP.

Our customer has the same problem @800 (!) DL360 G5 updating from PSP 8.40 starting with hpsum.exe /s.

We are installing the hole PSP.

If we install the cp012570.exe over the gui or with /s there are no problems.

The .exe gives the same result, only it says "makes sure that you have the rights to starts system services".

I am running the installastion as domain admin, which also local admin.

Any more ideas?

Use the newest Windows Installer!

After installing Windows Installer 4.5 for Windows Server 2003 our problmes are solved! PSP 8.5 -including agents- installs without any msi-error.
