I do not know the original design goal of SIM
SIM and one Compaq IM has a long history.

We use SIM for the HW Monitoring of HP systems. Most of the HP HW has a very good integration. In our installations we normally also install HP Insight Remote Support Advanced which is used to send Service Events to HP in case of a HW failure.

Do you plan to integrate something special?
e.g. your APC UPS it gets very tricky if you want to do more than a ping test.
In most of the cases we discover the device and set them to forward events to the SIM.

It is possible to do more with some consultancy but difficult to maintain (e.g. conflicts with HP update procedure) because there is no HP SIM SDK as fare as I know.

I have been able to set up HP SIM to detect and receive various SNMP traps, I'm now wondering if it is possible for SIM to getbulkrequest or run multiple iterations of getnextrequest? If so, where is this set up?
