Hi,

One of our customer has exceeded the 2GB limit for MSDE database under Insight manager 7. They do not wish to purchase SQL as their environment is quite small. Is there a way to trim the database of historical data to keep the DB below the 2GB limit either in CIM 7 or SIM?

Thanks.
Dakshin

Not by size that I'm aware of, but in IM 7 you can set a limit to how many days data you wish to retain.

I no longer have IM 7 up and running, so I can't provide the exact details as to where the setting was.

I'm still looking in HPSIM.

There is one way that I know of; although it is not fully automated. I am still trying to fully automate this process..

Any help from other forum members would be great.

In SIM 4.x
----------------
1 - create a new event list.
2 - Search for events where "event time" "is older than" XX days (XX represents a value you assign).
3 - Save list (don't forget to assign a list name)

This will create an event list that will show you all EVENTS older than XX days. You can then select all those events and delete from the Database.

You could add more rules to show only certain events over XX Days (such as login events).

Hope that helps.. please feel free to respond with comments/suggestions.

Oh and give out some points if this was helpful!!

This is PT 2 of my first post earlier in the thread...

After you create an event list:

1 - Go to OPTIONS > EVENTS > DELETE EVENTS
2 - Change target to: (the list name you created earlier.) then APPLY
3 - Select SCHEDULE and config as necessary

Murthy, the historical database option that Rob refers to is located under the System tab, the server group on the left, then database.

That's if you still using IM 7.

Hi Ed,
I found that the option to uninstall was missing from only this particular server which I was working on.
But the other servers have the option under Add Remove programs.
I reinstalled the SW on this problem server and now I can see the option. Not sure what was the problem.
