When you moved HPSIM from your lab environment to production, did you install SIM on a new server, or did you move the server from your lab (if you moved the server from your lab, check your DNS entries for that server (forward and reverse lookups). I have had some problems with some servers SIM detects as far is IP addresses and all problems so far have been do to a lack of maintenace of the DNS servers.

When I first setup SIM 4.1 it was on a system located on a lab network. When it moved to its new home, it's IP address changed. When I check the details for this server it shows both IP address (original lab network plus new production). Is there any way that I can tell SIM to forget the old address?

I just moved the server. The old address is now taken by another machine.

I've also had problems with old DNS entries but the current entries look clean. I have only one entry in each of the forward and reverse lookup zones for my SIM server. The same goes for the new system that has take the old lab address. It has one proper entry in each of the lookup zones.

What I need is some way to get directly to the database and break the relationship between my server name and the old IP address.

I was in a situation where the CMS had its ip changed. The rule of thumb is do not rename or change the ip of your CMS.

Is it possible to get the ip addy back? Otherwise you will need to get with support and get a backline person to walk you thru trying to change the database if you are the dbo.

- Jim

No, I can't get the old address back. The origial address is on a different subnet.

So a call to support is the only way to fix this?

Yes - and it will have to be elevated to get the fix if it is possible, in your case. It was in mine.

The only other way to rectify it is to unistall and re-install. HpSIM 4.1 will create a new database and you can either delete or leave the old one.

- Jim

CIM723 had a similar problem. I updated the NIC drivers and because of the teaming configuration, lost connectivity for a while. The IP address of the CIM7 server in CIM7 change to 127.0.0.1, and I could never figure out how to change it. Because I have a small environment of 25+ servers, I simply re-installed CIM7.
