A typical record retrieved is about 1500 bytes, so give or take, it's about half a meg of information. The data is primarily static information and dynamic values such as processor utilization are not gathered because, as you say, it will be out of date the moment it is collected.

I have a few questions regarding the above topic:

How often does the Central Management Server Database update itself?

Can an update be initiated by an HPSIM administrator?

Does running a report to query the DB initiate the update of the database?

Thanks in advance for the info.

The data is updated (appended or owerwritten) in DB after the execution of Data Collection Task. You can increase the frequency of its execution if you desire. The default data collection task runs on "All Systems" once in every 2 weeks. You can also create a new data collection task for only those servers/desktops that you want to monitor frequently.

Excellent Answers/Advice guys! Thanks!

One last question...

If I run this on our environment of 300 servers, (LAN/WAN) what type of load is put on the Network and servers (HPSIM mgmt server, remote servers, data communications line, etc.)
Is it nominalnonobtrusive? Excessive/obtrusive?

I >NEED< this information, but if it disrupts too many clients, I'm going to have to pare it back.

Thanks again!

Dean

Excellent Answers/Advice guys! Thanks!

Few more things...

If I run this on our environment of 300 servers, (LAN/WAN) what type of load is put on the Network and servers (HPSIM mgmt server, remote servers, data communications line, etc.)
Is it nominalnonobtrusive? For example:

Say Server X showed processor usage of 96%. Would that instance be at the point of time during the data colection, or would it be a peak at some point of time after the last data collection interval?

(Hope that made sense_

Thanks again!

Dean

I was hoping the data collection was dymanic. Since it is not, it doesn't matter at what time of day I run it since the information I gather at noon would be the same if I had gathered it at midnight.

I've rescheduled the tool to gather the information once per every week on Saturdays. I'll collect and review on Sundays.

Thanks guys for the help.
