I can't really help you on the first part except to suggest you might want to look at a custom command.

To test, the HP Managements Agents GUI (in Control Panel) has an snmp trap send button that generates a Major Alert, you could use that event for the initial testing.

I'm having trouble getting paging to work. Anyone have any tips? Our provider supports TAP. I can use hyperterminal to dial and connect to the paging controller. I setup event handling to send an email and send a page but I only get the email. (server up or down)

Here's the action status details:
Timeout waiting for the pager service to start the TAP protocol. Phone:9,206******* Pin: 206*******

Using SIM 4.1 SP1 on Win2K DL360 modem connected COM1

Also, if anyone has a better way to test if it works then bouncing the server, it would be much appreciated. I wish there was a send test message in configuration.

Instead of sending a page, you can send it as an SMS formatted email. Many phones and pagers have email addresses, in which they can accept text only messages upto a certain point, i.e. 128 characters.

Consider upgrading to hp Systems Insight Manager 4.2, if you have not done so already. Upgrading should refresh your installation and may fix your problem.

Refer to http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=522474

Reinstalling fixed it. Rather forceful way of fixing the problem but it worked. Problem now is the Email portion doesn't seem to work now. Oh well...
