Slow logout of server after web agent 2.0 install

Hi,

I have noticed that on the servers I have upgraded to the Web Agent 2.0, they are very slow to logout. Not a problem per say, but very annoying.

In particular I am seeing this on brand new DL380 G4 with EVERYTHING at the latest version of the drivers/agents/firmware. It starts to happen ONLY after the web agent is upgraded to 2.0. However, I am seeing this on other boxes (but not every box) as well.

Basically, the problem is you select "Logout" from the start button, and it just sits there for about 30 seconds - then it starts processing the logout and sits for another 15 seconds or so logging you out. These are brand new boxes with no applications running yet (just the standard support software that is on all our boxes).

Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, I'm getting this after upgrading to PSP 7.20. Quite fast before this, but annoying now!

I have the same problem with fresh install from smartstart 7.20 with DL380 G4 servers and upgrading a ml370g3 server with PSP7.20

anyone solved this problem ?

This is very interesting since I did upgrade quite a few of my servers to 7.20 and haven't run into this problem at all. And I do have about 500 servers total:) Can somebody provide a sample of homepage config that you use?

I am not sure what you mean by "Homepage Config". Maybe this is something we are missing that would fix the problem...

If you stop the "HP System Management Homepage" service the logout speed goes back to normal. So the 2.0 agent is definitely related (although I guess I can't 100% prove this is the case).

Peter,

I thought of one more thing. If you use RDP to connect to the server (except /console mode) you dont see the problem. This is because the RDP session ends while the server is still loging out.

Are you using RDP and hence not "seeing" the slow logout? If so, try logging out directly on the server or use the /console command argument in your RDP shortcut and see if you have the problem.

We have reproduced this 'slow logout' problem (associated with Systems Management Homepage (SMH) 2.0) ) in our labs and have created a fix for a future release. The fix results in a 'log off' that will be approximately 30 seconds faster than it is in SMH 2.0. The fix will not be included in the upcoming SmartStart 7.3 release (too late to make it through the QA cycle), but will be in a follow-up release afterward.

Pete,

Now that 7.3 is released, how soon til we can see this fix? Do we have to wait until version 7.4 or will this be a hotfix. If the former, is there any way to get ahold of this prior to the 7.4 release?

The fix is intended to be released out to the web prior to 7.4. Unfortunately I cannot give any release dates out because there are other activities going on that also need to be prioritized, and I don't want to give any false promises in case something else were to come up that affected the date. However, the fix has been checked into the source repository and will be part of all future SMH releases.

This appears to be now fixed in the latest release of the "HP System Management Homepage for Windows" service:

I tested both Win2003 and Win2000 (SP4) - both seem much better now for logout speeds. I have not tried Win2003 SP1 yet.

Latest version of Management Homepage fixes this problem - see earlier posts on this thread for link to the download.
