I don't believe this is a trust issue. I'm running SIM 4.0 by the way. I can install the full support pack, and it will fail on the Insight Management Agents. I can then go into the VCA and install Insight Management Agents 7.0 from there successfully, however I cannot update to version 7.1 from the VCA.

The same problem occurs when I use the RDU, which operates outside of SIM and therefore does not require a trust relationship in SIM. This happens even when I set up the RDU to install the IMAs and nothing else (because everything installed the first time around). However, it does seem that if I execute the Insight Management Agents 7.1 cp file on the server while logged in remotely the Agents will install successfully.

It seems that there is some snag in the various deployment tools when you get to the IMAs that is avoided when the Agents are manually installed seperately.

The only thing that I can think of that would give me a problem like this that nobody else seems to have would be some quirk in the permissions on the account that SIM executes its tools from. Then again, the RDU fails, and I would assume that the RDU runs on my credentials, correct?

When trying to update the Insight Management Agents on Windows 2000/2003 servers I am given the following in my event log:

Command Line Parameters Given: /silent

Name: HP Insight Management Agents for Windows 2000/Server 2003
New Version: 7.10.0.0

Beginning Silent Session...

The software is installed but is not up to date.

Current Version: 7.0.0.0

- the component will be updated to the new version

The operation was not successful.

I have tried to install this update on numerous servers, and it fails about 90% of the time. I have no trouble getting the agents to 7.0. All other components from support pack 7.1 install without a hassle, and the servers are subsequently rebooted, yet I am still unable to bring the Insight Management Agents from 7.0 to 7.1. This problem occurs regardless of whether I run the update from the VCA or the 7.1 RDU.

I haven't seen anyone mention this in the forums. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks,
Seth

Seth,

Try running the cp executable directly at the console.
I saw this on a recent update and for some reason it brought up the HP Management Agents GUI. I may have already had it open but cannot be sure.

Also, this way can give you a bit more info.

Success.
Thanks Rob, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to try that. Of course, now I have to do this on over 100 servers...
Thanks Again :)
Seth

I have seen this problem too. It was usually a problem with the trust settings in CIM723. Manually changing the target servers trust settings to allow all and then runnnig the install of the SupportPack 7.10 worked.
