topic Upgrading Agents in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

I've been trying to upgrade my agents to 7.3. I have 115+- servers some upgrades work great using the HP Remote Deployment Utility, some retain the old settings. IE: the Systems Managment Home Page does not upgrade, only 1/2 the software of the new version installs. Once this happens I can't get the system to upgrade correctly at all trying everything I know of. Now they don't show up in the Central Management Console correctly. Is there a clean uninstall utility. I've tried Add/Remove software even hacking around a system, but there are so many hooks.

Hi Brian - did you try all of those at once?

I would try and re-install the PSP on one of the troubled ones and see if that recitifies the issues. This time use the VCA to launch the PSP install and watch the log as it installs.

- Jim

Another thing you can do as well is look at C:\CPQSYSTEM\cpqsetup.log and see if an error is logged in there for the failed PSP install. Often times this log file helps save on some troubleshooting steps and sometimes I have found the smoking gun in there as well.

- Jim

Before you put too much effort into this. The 7.4 Agents are out.

Are you deploying the entire PSP?

What version are you upgrading from?

There were a number of issues with the NIC Driver and VCA when going to 7.20A. In some of these the NIC Driver update would just hang and a reboot required midway through the install.

In some cases I needed to use device manager to remove and rediscover the device and then add the new NIC driver.

As noted 7.40A is out, although still very new.

I have done several rollouts of 7.30 and it has been really reliable for me whereas 7.20 had some buggies in it as far as deployment goes as noted.

My thought is since I have had good experiences with 7.30 that it would be reasonable to work on getting this to work before going to 7.40.

- Jim

Are there any known issues when upgrading to 7.4? For example, is there a minimum version that you have to go from in order to get 7.4 on the server?
