VCRM not reachable

I have recently upgraded to SIM 5. I can no longer change the settings of new servers' VCA to access the repository. I get the message:

"The Version Control Repository Manager, at vcrm_server, could not be accessed using the specified account and password"

I have created an account on "vcrm_server" called "example", which is a member of the local administrators group. This group has Full Control permissions on the repository folder. I have attempted to use the VCRM's IP instead of the hostname in case there was some strange DNS error, but get the same result.

I have tried the "change agent settings" option on the SIM server itself, as the VCRM is also hosted on the same server, and I get "The specified repository, vcrm_server, is invalid or not reachable.".

I have no idea if it was actually upgrading the SIM version which caused this error, but I can't see that anything has changed on the VCRM host to cause it.

I have considered forcing the latest PSP onto the SIM server in case the software versions on there are at fault, but it is naturally a production server (multi-function) and a bit difficult to bounce in the middle of the working day.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.

-C-

Remove your user named "example" from the administrators group and try connecting using the "Change Agent Settings" option.

Ok, tried that. The user is no longer a member of any group. When I tried the "change agent settings" option, I got the "The specified repository, vcrm_server, is invalid or not reachable" message again. I assume this user must have at least Read permissions on the repository folder?

Colin,

user "example" must be a member of a group which have a access level of "operator" or "administrator" or at least "user" group in "System management homepage" settings of VCRM system

1) create a new Group called SMHGroup and add the user "example" to this group

2) open "SMH" in vcrm_server system and goto "settings" -> "Security" -> "user group" and add SMHGroup to any of this access level (hopefully administrator and operator)
3) Now try to connect to VCRM from VCA with "example" login

Thanks for the responses.

I have solved the problem now. I had two identical certificates on the SIM/VCRM server which may have been part of the initial problem. I removed them both and re-imported.

When I then went to install some updates on one of our test servers, the deployment tool could not find the VCRM. I looked on the system management homepage, and neither the VCRM nor the VCA were shown. I downloaded and updated both of these, ran a hardware and software poll on the server and it worked fine, with no loss of the original VCRM configuration.

I still have no idea of why this problem arose, but hopefully these steps may help someone else.

-C-
