Did you try to stop VCRM service than temporary move away files from the repository directory and start again VCRM? If the repository is damaged it can have similar effect. In this case the service can be in started state but in the reality it hasn't finished starting.

Regards, Szabolcs
I have HPSIM 5.0 installed & recently all the servers were reporting that they couldn't connect to the VCRM. Indeed, I could not lauch this from the server or remotely and if I access the VCA on any server, it does not populate the settings, only the logs are available. If the HPSIM server is down the VCA reports it cannot connect, but I am able to repoint to another VCRM I have as a backup. I upgraded VCRM and VCA's to the latest versions and even removed and reinstalled, including HPSIM and all HP agents to be certain, but no change. Even the HP Homepage on all servers pointing to this VCRM timeout. I also upgraded to WS2K3 just in case and because it was long overdue but no change and more frustratingly, still no error logs relating to this issue. I have ended up repointing all VCA's at the backup VCRM as a workaround, but really need to resolve this issue that started for no obvious reason (no changes etc before it started).

I can't be certain I didn't try that already. I'll reinstall VCRM with a clean repository first. If that works I could try with a copy of my backup VCRM repository. Thanks i'll post back when done.

(while automaticupdate is not running)Check for "psp-*.exe" files in the repository directory,
which are not "0" KB in size,
if you find any file then delete them.

This should solve your problem.

Cheers both for your suggestions. I first emptied 'repository' and this worked, albeit obviously no PSP's. I then removed just the specific PSP's suggested and then all the PSP files, both to no avail. I will repopulate the VCRM as no custom packages yet.
Thanks both for your suggestions, I will severely punish myself for not thinking of that myself ;-0
