Raph,
What do you get when you run the extracted cpqsetup.exe directly?

I'd expect at least a different message.

I guess on a test server you could try removing the existing driver altogether from the NC31xx Controller and then rerunning the cpqsetup.exe.

On the drivers shown below, VCA indicate the version 5.29.4.67 (yellow flag)instead of the good version installed (8.0.21.0 = Windows device managment).

HP NC31xx Fast Ethernet NIC Driver for Windows 2000 5.29.4.67 8.0.21.0 8.0.21.0

There is only this error, all the others flags are greens.

the problem is present on several server with the same network card.

Reinstall of VCA and reboot doesn't change this behaviour.

Hi Ralph,

The software page compares what you have installed to the latest drivers. This error will show up until you install the latest software for the NIC. The others show green because they are current.

It looks from the JPG that the entire PSP was installed which would indicate the NIC Driver installation may have failed.

You could check by looking through the VCA Log.

You could try just installing this component. If that doesn't work from the VCA then try running the cpxxxxx.exe file directly on the Server. You get a better indication of the error this way.

Try running the cpxxxx.exe file and just extracting the contents. Then run the extracted setup.exe (or whatever is in there) directly.

That silent install may be hiding something.

There is a new revision of the driver in version B wich correct the problem since march, 20.

"Component installer was enhanced to leave the component XML file (cpxxxxxx.xml) in a known location (%SystemDrive%\CPQSYSTEM\) so the HP Management and Version Control agents can retrieve information about the installed components on the server.
Very odd as you say.
Checked on a W2K Server here with an NC3163 and that all looks okay. Via Device Manager, via My Computer properties on the n100nt5.sys file all show version 8.0.21.0

All I can think to do is delete the driver and install from scratch.
