HI,

I have been asked to setup SMS Messages fro our site.

I have installed the latest version of HP SIM and have been told that there is a SMS Gateway already installed, but I can not find any instructions for it on the HP SIM Site.

Does anyone else use this, if so how do you set it up? Do I need a GSM Modem installed on the server?

Setting up SMS is pretty straight forward if you have a telecom provider in your country which supports TAP. You will need to have a modem installed on the Sim server. Setup the correct com port for your pager within Sim. You will also need the dial inn number and modem settings of your SMS Center which you will need to provide under the user account within SIM.

Another option is to send an alert by smtp to the email to sms gateway of your provider. Usually the email adres would look like <MOBILENUMBER>@<TELECOMPROVIDER>.com. Usually you will have to activate this option first but you can check that with your telecom provider.</TELECOMPROVIDER></MOBILENUMBER>

It's also important to ensure that the comms settings are the same as your provider's. It's *usually* 8 data, no parity, & 1 stop (in Europe) - but check first.

Thanks for the answers guys,

I've checked with my local Provider and they do not support TAP, only SMPP.

Does ano=yone know how to set this up using HP SIM?

*Only* TAP is supported by SIM at the moment. You might want to try another provider that supports it. It doesn't matter which you use, as they all charge per call (in Europe anyway).

If your providers has an smtp to sms gateway you can easily send the alert via smtp to the sms gateway.

I am working currently on a solution and will post it once I have it up and running :-)
