Hi All
I am using HP Systems Insight Manager for monitoring my Proliant DL 580 Servers. Can I create a task that would mail me a notification when the Hard Disk Usage reaches a desired percentage, for instance if I want the SIM to mail a notification when Disk Usage reaches 5GB. Kindly guide me for creating this custom event and scheduling it.
Best Regards
Thankyou
Javed Khalid

The management agents on your servers will automatically throw an alarm when your drives reach a certain percentage of utilization. This will show up as User Threshold - Rising Alarm (rev 3).

Under Automatic Event Handling (options menu) create a new task. After naming the task, select events where even category name is Proliant Threshold Events / User Threshold - Rising Alarm (rev. 3). Select the systems tow hich you want to apply this (or accept the default System Name is (Any) to monitor all). On the Select Actions page check off send e-mail, set your time window, review the summary and save.

There is one caveat to this. Since this email is event-based, you will receive an email every time your drive crosses the specified threshold. If a drive is increasing slowly in size it is common for this event to be triggered several times in a short period as the utilization varies just above and below the threshold. You will want to make sure this will not cause a problem for your email recipients.

-Terry

I almost forgot... the utiilization percentages can be set on a server-by-server bases from that server's managment home page. I know of no way to set this globally. Also you will not be notified for any servers that are already above the threshold (unless they fall below and cross it again) as this event is unly triggered by an upward crossing of the threshold.

-Terry
