topic MSDE VSS problem in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

After installing HP SIM (C.05.01.01) with MSDE, I can't backup the server using shadow copy.
I think the reason is that the installed MSDE is SQL server 2000 SP3 (8.00.761), and the server is running Windows 2003 R2 x64. I get a message in the event log which is described in MS KB 904418 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904418), something about the MSSQL not being registered with VSS.

Before I install a unsupported hotfix from Microsoft for an ancient version of SQL, I would like to know whether there is an update from HP for this problem.

I have upgraded the MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express edition, and that has solved my problem. It also seems that HP SIM still works fine.
