Well, the CMOS Asset Tag can be written programatically. We know that because the DOS utility CONREP from the Smart Start Scripting Toolkit does it.

So it could be done remotely using CONREP, iLO/RILOE and "the right boot floppy / floppy image".

I don't know if anyone has ever written tools to do this under Windows, Linux, etc.

That seems like it would be a useful thing to have. Then it could be done via a SIM Custom Tool.

Hi All

I have a customer that wants to put a unique Assett Tag number on each Proliant in their environment. Is there a way to do this using Insight Manager rather than going to each server and touching the bios from the console?

Thanks
Bob

Not that I discovered.
I've had to go into the RBSU and do it from there.
The other option would be to use the Server Role description in the Agent, that is free text so you could put the Asset ID in there. But it will not report in the Asset Tag Field.
