topic Unable to Upgrade Version Control agent in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

Latest VC Agent won't install on one of my W2K3 servers. No errors, it appears to install very quickly with a success message but the previous version is still there. When I try and uninstall the previous version through Add/Remove programs I see the message:-

A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\Installer\vcagent.msi.

Well this file doesn't exist anywhere on this server. Doesn't exist in the C:\windows\Installer directory for a couple of other servers that have successfully upgraded either. I'm sure I've had this before and got into a right mess trying to sort it out so looking for a trouble free solution. I guess if I can find a copy of this file to put into the C:\windows\Installer directory that might fix it.

Thanks

Lenny

Found solution. Extracting the contents of the latest version control agent file generates vcagent.msi which I copied to C:\windows\Installer and was then able to remove the previous version. Then had to delete the service using "SC delete cpqvcagent" and install the new VCAgent. This didn't quite fix it as I then had to uninstall the new agent as there still appeared to be traces of the old one there and re-install it. That fixed it.

Lenny
