i see you're in the UK James - you *should* be able to dial directly to a cellular provider via your modem from SIM. There is a list of worldwide TAP protocol dialin numbers (including vodafone & cellnet UK) here:

http://www.intellisoftware.co.uk/products/transports/tap-protocol-numbers.aspx

You may also find the information in the following thread useful:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=647904

Colin

Hi, got SIM running on a server and I'm ordering a modem for pager alerts. However we would really like SMS alerts instead, can this be done? If so, how!?

Thanks

We use the following solution, we have a contract with a sms sending company (http://www.clickatell.com/) and we use their e-mail sending solution to transfer all alerts to SMS. You only need an internet connection on your SMS server and an e-mail client.

Hope this helps you

Laurent

James,

Do your pagers have email addresses associated with them? If they do (and most text-pagers do) the best way to do this is to send the messages as email to the pagers. This is what I do and it works perfectly.

-Terry
