Recently installed HP SIM using the MSDE database instead of a using full SQL version. How Can I move the MSDE database from the C: drive to a newly installed D: drive or do I have to re-install HP SIM on the D: drive?

Thanks

Lenny

Disappointed not to have received any replies to this, as I would have thought this is a very common problem.

The only article I can find on MS Website relating to moving MSDE databases applies to SharePoint Services, and I don't want to risk trying to apply similar steps to the HP SIM database unless someone can verify that it can be moved and still work.

Lenny

I would simply re-install HP SIm on the D and after copy the database from C to D. Easy does it. If you don't want to reinstall you can probably change the ODBC settngs.
Do you just need to move the MSDE Databases or the HPSIM installation as well?

You might need to get the MS SQL Server Admin tool to move databases for MSDE.
It's really a DBA Question as HPSIM will just communicate with the Database Server.

The standard MSDE tool certainly doesn't permit moving databases.
We really only need to move the database onto the D: drive which has 16G or so free whereas the C: drive where the SIM installatioin is only has 1.5G free. Guess I need to find that SQL Admn tool then.

Thanks

Lenny

Lenny,

If you have MS SQL Server anywhere you'll have the SQL Enterprise Manager Tool.
You'd need to Register the Server that has the MSDE Database. Then Stop and disconnect the database. Copy the DB and Log files to D: and then reconnect it.
You'll probably not be able to move the Master and other files but you should be able to move the Insight Manager Database files.

Probably a good idea to shutdown HPSIM while you're doing it!
