topic HP SIM SNMP trap forwarding to Netcool in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

hi

We use Netcool as our central alert management software and wish to have HP SIM alarts forwarded to it. We have setup the SNMP forwarding to our test Netcool server and can identify SNMP traps coming into Netcool. However, when we test certain scenarios to test the alarming, the information in the trap is too generic to be useful and does not even contain details of the issue being reported in HPSIM.

For example a failed disk alert from an EVA gives specific information in the HPSIM alarm about the disk location and type of alarm, but the trap sent to Netcool is does not contain any of the detail - just a generic " A service incident has been reported". We have the EVA MIBS installed on the netcool server but HP SIM isnt sending an EVA trap.

please can anyone advise how to get the detail available in HP SIM to be passed in an SNMP trap which can be interpreted by netcool.

EVA monitoring is generally done by HP command view and not SNMP.

Most large environments use Netcool as their single pane of glass...If your trying to automate the snmp received from the managed system to Netcool via HPSIM you will need an orchestration to handle the layer 2 data. You could install the netcool SSM on each individual system but that is overkill...need a proxy to interpret handle the request to netool.
