SQL Server 2008 Express R2 installation failed with exit code 12

Hi,

I am going to be mad in a while ...

Impossible to install the product due to the above error in the HP Insight Management Installer at Database configuration step.

I have no idea where to look for to solve this problem.

The server was running 6.3 eco 1 before but we failed the upgrade to 7.0. We removed almost everything (all insight products and SQL server too). After a reboot, we can't install 7.0 due to the sql error. We tried to install SQL Express 2008 R2 alone but we were not able to connect to the default instance.

What does this installation error mean ?

When installing SIM, do not install the SQL component manually but let the integrated installer do it. If you do have an existing instance, make sure the SQL browser service is running as that's how the integrated installer locates the db.

Installing HP SIM6.3 on NSC get the following message;

SQL server 2008 express R2 install failed with exit code -2068578303

not sure where to go. Going to try this again on backup nsc...

same error on backp nsc

I had similar problems, however in my case the Error Code looked slightly different:

SQL Server 2008 Express R2 SP1 installation failed with exit code: -2068578304

It seems they where caused by some SQL Express password check, apperantly the password I specified was not "strong" enough.

So I solved them by:

- uninstalling SQL Express

- re-run SIM Installation

- specify a stronger DB user password.
