Hi

If you physicaly remove the power supply nothing is broken you only get the redundancy missing status by Wbem. If you unplug the power cord AC is missing and most of the ML/DL Proliant will send the indication message, if you have the correct HP Wbem Provider are loaded in the ESXi4/5 environment.

If you have VCenter you can enable the NFS Client Firewall rule which allows communication on all ports from esxi5 to the outside world. In most security environment this is not yet a real issue (but not very nice. A specific rule would be better) because the communication needs to be issued by the esxi kernel. With ESXi4 you have the same situation. But with ESXi5 the Incoming traffic is blocked as specified in the rules.

Take care some times the ESX people disable the HP SIM Provider as a best practice because of some performance issues in the past. If you did not install the ESXi your self you should also check the service status ESX WBEM/CIM Server.

By the way inside ESXi the WBEM/CIM Server is using a connection from port 5989 to 5000x on the SIM server

using the https protocol. If you have also WEBES (Insight Remote Support 5.70 install you will also see a connection to the DESTA_Service (WEBES). Do not remeber the exact port number.

Just in case you plan your own ESXi Firewall rule for WBEM indication

Hi at all,

I installed hp insight manager 7 on win 2008 r2. I have a esxi5 server (installed from vmware server) then I installed on this server: hp-esxi5.0uX-bundle-1.1.2-4 for discover esxi5 on sim (wbem).

I discovered esxi5 node on hp insight manager with this procedure:

http://cosonok.blogspot.it/2011/03/monitoring-hp-vmware-esxi-hosts-with-hp.html

The for test I unplug a power supply (server have 2 pover supply) but in the console I don't look message alert (see screenshot: hp_wbem1.JPG)
In the health status console I see the alert (see screenshot: hp_wbem2.JPG) alert

Why I don't look the alert in the main console?

thank's

Hi,

Normaly two things are missing:

1. Wbem subsciption

2. ESXi5 has a firewall which blocks with default settings the communication of the wbem indication to your SIM Server. (You can easly test this fact by enabling NFSClient Communication in the firewall which will also allow the WBEM indication traffic and then run the powersupply test again.)

(3.) Unplugging the powersupply itself does not generating a HP Insight Remote Support Event but pulling the powercable will generate a power supply failed event.

Hope this helps.

@HP Insight Agent developement It would be nice if the firewall rule will be adapted for full functionality or at least an update in the Insight Remote Support Managed Systems guide will be done.

Thanks in advance

also make sure that the Windows Server 2008 Firewall (if you have enabled it) on the HP SIM Server has an incoming Rule which allows traffic through following ports:

UDP 162

TCP 162, 280, 2301, 5989, 50000-50010

regards,

Ville

thank's for your reply.

Really I mistake to write a post. For the test I removed power supply from chassis.

For the port in esxi5, Can I can open nfs client for open the port of wbem?

thanks

Luca
