System IP addresses

Hi,

We have a number of systems that have multiple NIC's, one for normal LAN traffic (10.x.x.x) and another for use by backup software (172.x.x.x) this includes the SIM server.

Unfortunately they have been identified with the Backup LAN NIC when discovered. What is the best way to ensure the normal LAN IP address is used?

This causes problems when connecting to the SIM server agents, or when going into PMP as the 172 address is used. I know you can set SIM to use the hostname but we have some SQL servers with an underscore "_" in the name so have to use the IP address for management.

You can't delete the SIM server from the system list and discover it again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mark,
I don't know how to address the SIM Server issue, but I exclude IP Addresses from alternate IP Addresses in severs that have multiple live NICs.
This means only the one IP address gets discovered.
You could try entering the IP Address of the Backup LAN IP Address in the excluded list and see what happens. If the DNS is correct, HPSIM should associate the IP Address with the Server name.
You may end up with an ORPHAS Device which you should be able to delete.

I have disabled the NIC in Windows reset the SIM server and it now shows under the normal LAN IP address.
