Hello

You can install HP Insight Managament Agents on those servers and then manualy log into this agents from your standalone workstation http:\\servername:2301 and check for status of server.

If you want management capability and features of HP SIM, you must install HP systems insight manager. There is only full installation.

i.

I need to know I have 5 servers that are all at different locations. I have opened up the appropriate port on the firewall. And I want to monitor those 5 serves from a standalone workstation over the internet. Do I need to install the full insight manager on the workstation or is there some web agent that I can install and monitor just for pre-failure on those servers? Please help I’m fairly new to insight manage

There's a number of similar threads on the forum.
HPSIM could be installed at your local office, from there it depends on the functionality you want.

Ping will provide a simple up/dow reporting, allowing SNMP will provide device identification, allowing ports 2301 and 2381 will provide full HPSIM integration.

Opening ports in your firewall to expose the agents directly to the Internet is not recommended. The security implemented with the agents is pretty good, but not bullet-proof. The best practice in most situations would be to establish a VPN connection to get behind the firewall and then access the agent.
