We have the latest VCRM installed on our SIM server. Just about every other day, when we go to update a server using VC Agents, it tells us our VCRM is not available.

We cycle the VCRM service, and everything works.

There are no events in the event log.

This also occurred with CIM 7...

Any ideas?

Beth - We have this same problem on version 7.x and I apply the same solution. Have you been able to resolve this issue yet? Thanks.

Mike W.

Beth,
Have you looked at upgrading to HPSIM 4.2 yet?
I believe the VCRM gets another update. The VCRM version I know have is 2.1.0.720.

Note, there are changes to the way the VCRM communicates in HPSIM 4.2, so this may address the issue.

Rob - Thanks for the feedback.

I upgraded to SIM 4.2 in my lab environment, but have been hesitant to do so in production. I have noticed that many of my servers are not reporting their software version, even though I have Trust All mode set on all of them and the correct SNMP settings. I am wondering if the new SIM requires that each servers WBEM username and password be used when adding a server. The loss of this information has prevented me from moving forward. I would rather deal with intermitent loss of the VCRM than the inability to see my sw versions all together.

Any ideas or suggestions that would "push" me to 4.2

What OS ?
As far as I'm aware no WBEM is required (just like 4.1) to get OS details in a Windows environment if you have SNMP set up correctly.

Note that there is quite a change to how the System Management Homepage on HPSIM 4.2 works.

Out of interest, is the VCRM installed on the same Server as HPSIM?

Rob - I am running 2 unique environments. One CIM 7.2 platform on Win2k SP4 and one HP SIM 4.1 also on Win2K SP4

The CIM 7.2 is where I am experiencing the intermitent loss of the VCRM. Both the CIM and the VCRM are on the same machine. CIM connects to a SQL db on another machine.

The HP SIM 4.1 application and the VCRM also reside on the same server. It is on this platform where I am seeing random sw version loss - some servers report it and some do not. This environment also connects to a SQL db on another machine.

I am considering going to 4.2 on the 4.1 platform to see if this helps correct the sw version issue.

Mike
