Linux distros managed by HP SIM

Hi, I would like to know if HP SIM has limitation on what Linux distro must be installed on a managed HP Server. We have a couple of Gentoo servers in our office. Also, there are several Red Hat servers running at some other offices. I'd like to manage all of them from our HP SIM server. Your thoughts?

HP SIM is only qualified to be hosted on RHEL 2.1 or 3 and soon SLES 9. For a managed device, if it is a ProLiant, the best results will be gained using the ProLiant Support Pack for Linux, currently available for a variety of versions of RedHat and SuSE. Consult http://www.hp.com/servers/manage --> SmartStart --> Support Matrices to see which version is supported on which ProLiant model.

For non-ProLiants or when the PSP is not available, HP SIM can do basic up/down polling of systems with SNMP. Some additional information can be collected with WBEM, and OpenWBEM and OpenPegasus are both available CIMOMs.

Gentoo is not a supported distribution for any ProLiant, so it's likely you will have to forego many features enabled by HP-supplied drivers. You may want to google "proliant gentoo" to find information about others' experiences.

To be clear, HP SIM doesn't really care what's on the other end of the wire as far as an OS is concerned. The issue is about what instrumentation can be seen and how is it surfaced.

ProLiant servers don't support Gentoo, so the ProLiant Support Pack isn't available.
