Hello

Have I understood correctly that I need to import mibs for hp procurve 4000 switches after install of hp sim 4.1 and that i have to do at the command prompt with mcompile and mxmib? When I do that I get a lot of errors when doing mxmib -a name.cfg.

"IMPORTING CFG hpicfSntp.cfg
Error: File 'hpicfSntp.cfg' Error reading MIB: MIB node has no parent Line: 70
AN ERROR OCCURRED EXECUTING THE COMMAND"

Doesn't feel right to me, whats wrong?

/Magnus

Here is my experience with the HP procurve mibs. I imported the HP procurve 5308XL mibs a while ago.

Basically, they are full of syntax errors and missing components. It took me days to import all the necessary mibs (the ones listed in the readme for my switch) because I had to debug them and download many missing files that were referenced. (most are RFC's and Cisco mibs).

The HP mibs also lack trap definitions so most traps will not give you the error message when you receive them from your switch. SIM will give you a generic informational error instead.

I dunno if the procurve 4000 mibs are any better but the 5308XL mibs were pretty much a waste of time since they dont have trap configurations.
