Hello Albert, On step 3: Create subscriptions to WBEM events Configure SNMP Trap Community string public. I would expect that the SNMP read was alreay set, if not also select that one. Deselect the Configure SSH if no Open SSH client is installed (it's not needed for monitoring). Set Trust Relationsship, if you like to pass trough from SIM to your remote SMH's.

People,

I'm still trialling HP SIM here as the means to centralized hardware monitoring for all HP products (Printers, HP Procurve Switches and HP Proliant servers).

But I'm still struggling to control how it works.

Which one is HP SIM behaviour:

pull (polling) on a scheduled interval

or

received the forwarded WBEM event alert sent by the agents thus emailing me just once

If anyone can share how do you set up the HP Sim in your environment that’d be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello,

SIM uses pull actions to update status of objects already in SIM and for datacollection purposes. So no event should come from pulling unless it's a SIM alert that there was a time-out.

Push actions are always from a device in your network, agent, ILO or other devies that have SNMP or WBEM abilities.
Can you post a sample of an email you get when you do a pull job?

Andrew, no I have no experience in how to setup the snmp trap in HP SIM or in HP agent on any device.

So in all of my server deployments I trust HP SPP to install and update the latest software agents necessary and then I just put in email address in HP agent.

That's as far as I can configure the alerting in the devices. So do I need to do something on HP SIM server ?

Thanks Andrew,

So yes, the option to centrally configure the bulk majority / selected servers SNMP to point / send the data to HP SIM server can be found in the Configure or Repair Agents and then on the Step 3: Configure or Repair Settings ?

is that correct ?
