Hello,

I have the following servers:

- Linux (CentOS 7) Virtual machine (on ESXi 5.1) running SIM 7.4 with the May 2015 patches

- Windows (2012 R2) Virtual machine (on ESXi 5.1) running VCRM 7.4.2.0

Originally, the VCRM machine was a Windows 2008 R2 machine, and I could select this machine as a Version Control Repository in SIM. But after upgrading the machine from 2008R2 to 2012R2, SIM doesn't find the VCRM anymore. I've already imported the certificate of the SIM server as a trusted management machine in SMH on the VCRM machine, changed trust levels to all possible options, ran Pegasus WMI wrapper as Local System and a dedicated service account, disabled the firewall completely on the Windows machine, but none of this helps: SIM refuses to see the VCRM.

VCRM is showing up normally in SMH, and I can attach individual VCA's to this VCRM, so that works normally, just not the discovery in SIM.

Does anyone have an idea what else I can try, or is this combination not supposed to work? If that's the case, I'll just reinstall the VCRM machine with 2008R2.....

Joost

Hi,

I have installed VCRM (also 7.4.2.0) on the Linux SIM server and it's recognised normally. But I can't seem to attach Windows servers to the baseline in SIM, so I need a Windows VCRM to check the baseline of the Windows servers. And, as I said before, I had no problems with the 7.4.2.0 VCRM on a Windows 2008R2 machine, it's just the 2012R2 server that refuses to work.

Joost

I've seen that sometimes even when the firewall is disabled you still have problems accessing the server. Can you access the http://servername:2301 and https://servername:2381 ?

Hello Andrew,

SMH is available, and VCA's can connect to the VCRM on port 2381, so SMH/VCRM seem to work.
Reinstalling the VCRM. Is not an option? If you look at the second tab of the server containing the VCRM do you see the link dor the VCRM? Normaly you see all websites found by scanning the server. Reinstalling seems strange but it should have worked once the trust works so there is no good reason why it should not have worked.

If i look at the log i see that SNMP works but no Hp SNMP management agents installed.
You could install these or add Windows credentials for the WBEM Discovery.

Because these protocols fail the discovery can't detect if the object is a server and will not run the SMH discovery.

Once the discovery works for either SNMP or WBEM i think the discovery will finish ok.

SNMP agents don't install on a VM, I thought? Also, I didn't need them when VCRM was running on Windows 2008R2.

Right, it's a virtual, can you add the WBEM/WMI credentials then ? SIM needs to know it's a server so it will run the SMH discovery

I've added the account that has admin rights on the server (and which is used to run the pegasus WMI mapper service) is added to both the Global credentials and the system credentials.

I've checked with Wireshark: during a discovery/identify, there is traffic from the SIM server to the VCRM server on port 5989, the WBEM port. But nothing is logged in the Pegasus access log.

Joost

The discovery setup can be seen in the screenshots.

And the output of the discovery:

********* Significant issues and overall target discovery/identification
status:
Major: The system cannot be identified properly for HP SIM to manage;
unable to get one or more of the following: model, serial number or
unique identifier (UUID). For management processors, verify the
system is running the latest firmware. For Linux based operating
systems, you must have dmidecode installed, enable the
PermitRootLogin and PasswordAuthentication in sshd, and use root
sign-in credential. For HP-UX, verify the sign-in credential. For
Windows, check if WMIMapper is configured correctly on the CMS and
verify the sign-in credential.

********* Additional results (listed for information only):

* Starting identification process...
* Checking for known running web servers...
* Checking for SNMP protocol support on system...
Normal: The system responded to an SNMP request; it supports SNMP Protocol
and has a valid read community string.
* Checking for SNMPv3 protocol support on system...
Normal: The system did not respond to SNMPv3.

Hello,

I see that you have set Sign-in credentials,If you look at the right in the credentials screen look at Show Advanced protocol credentials. There you will see WBEM/WMI, did you fill these in ? Is the server unknown/unmanaged ?

I would think so if you only have SNMP working at this time ...

If I fill in nonsense in the credentials section, I get a login failure in the WBEM log, so WBEM authentication is done successfully, it seems.

Oh well, I've given up on trying to add the 2012R2 VCRM to SIM. I'm just gonna reinstall the server with Windows 2008R2.
