topic HPSIM bug? in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

Within HPSIM I've created a user, lets call him User A, with 'Server Configuration Rights' of 'none'. I've also created a custom tool called lockstat (which is actually the lockstat command). I tried the following:

User A runs lockstat tool on User B, no response or stnd out.

User A logs out of HPSIM

I raise the rights of User A to FULL within HPSIM.

User A logs into HPSIM

User A runs lockstat tool on User B, gets full anticipated response.

User A logs out of HPSIM

I lower the rights of User A back to NONE within HPSIM.

User A logs into HPSIM

User A runs lockstat tool on User B, gets full anticipated response.

User A runs lockstat tool on User C, gets full anticipated response.

User A runs lockstat tool on User D, gets full anticipated response.

Etc.

Now that I've raised and lowered User A's perms in HPSIM, every user with rights of NONE can run the lockstat tool and get stnd out. If I create a new user with rights of NONE, he too can get the same results.

Tomorrow morning I'll have to raise and lower User A's rights (or any user with rights of NONE) to get my custom command to work. It seems that HPSIM resets its internal permissions database everynight. Why? Why should I have to flip-flop perms to get this to work correctly?

HPSIM version C.04.01.00.01

I think this thread might describe what you need to do: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=414867

Further examples can be found in the WJA TDEF instructions at http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/product_pdfs/wja_sysinsightmgr_technote.pdf

I'm assuming you're suggesting that I add this tool via XML and add the <EXECUTE-AS-USER>root</EXECUTE-AS-USER> functionality. I'll give it a try. Hopefully I'll get more consistant results. Thanks for the info!
