Newbie question. We had played with SCM in the environment and just the other day I noticed that SIM was around. I've downloaded and installed as directed..but it fails setting up the repository. I'm sure this is something basic, probably due to something else using something else, ssh or something. Any help would be appreciated...

# /opt/mx/bin/mxinitconfig
Performing agent setup.
Writing the initialization file...OK
Adding to property file...OK
Starting the agent daemon...OK
Completed setup of the agent.
Performing server setup.
Configuring the repository...FAIL
Connection to the repository server failed.
Performing server unsetup.
Stopping the server daemons...OK
Unregistering managed agents
An internal error occurred.
URLSeedGenerator file:/dev/random reached end of file

There's a set of pre-requisites in the installation guide. I know sometimes the temptation is to do an install without consulting the guide, but in this case it's a requirement.

I did that, with the exception of the java in a box piece, because I can't reboot the machine at the moment. If it's a kernel tweak, I have the parameters and can hopefully get some downtime soon.

# B8465BA               A.02.00        HP WBEM Services for HP-UX
B8465BA.WBEMServices A.02.00 WBEM Services CORE Product for hp 9000 servers

# ixPostgreSQL                  A.01.00-7.3.1  Object-Relational Database Management System
ixPostgreSQL.PostgreSQL       A.01.00-7.3.1  Object-Relational Database Management System

# T1458AA               1.4.1.05.01    Java2 1.4 Netscape Plugin for HP-UX
T1458AA.Jpi14         1.4.1.05.01    Java2 1.4 Netscape Plugin

# T1471AA               A.03.50.000    HP-UX Secure Shell
T1471AA.Secure_Shell  A.03.50.000    HP-UX Secure Shell

# T2414BA C.04.01.00.01 Systems Insight Manager Server Bundle
T2414BA.SysMgmtAgent C.04.01.00.01 Systems Insight Manager Agent Product
T2414BA.SysMgmtServer C.04.01.00.01 Systems Insight Manager Server Product

Kernel parms are set per the install doc. I've removed all previous versions of anything related and started from scratch. I go through step2 and all seems fine, but I never get the /opt/mx directory. So step three is not possible. The Steps:

1. Install Java, PostgreSQL, SSH, and WBEM:
swinstall -s /directory/depot T1458AA ixPostgreSQL T1471AA B8465BA
where directory is the path to the depot file and depot is the name of the depot file. For
example:
swinstall -s /tmp/HPSIM_download.depot T1458AA ixPostgreSQL T1471AA
B8465BA
2. Install HP Systems Insight Manager:
swinstall -s /directory/depot T2414BA
where directory is the path to the depot file and depot is the name of the depot file. For
example:
swinstall -s /tmp/HPSIM_download.depot T2414BA
3. Test the prerequisites:
/opt/mx/bin/mxinitconfig -l

Below are some ODD message I would not expect.
# swinstall -s /var/SIM.depot T2414BA

=======  09/25/04 10:29:13 CDT  BEGIN swinstall SESSION
(non-interactive) (jobid=hpig01-1614)

* Session started for user "root@hpig01".

* Beginning Selection
* Target connection succeeded for "hpig01:/".
* Source connection succeeded for "hpig01:/var/SIM.depot".
* Source:                 /var/SIM.depot
* Targets:                hpig01:/
* Software selections:
T2414BA,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP
+ ixPostgreSQL,r=A.01.00-7.3.1,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_64,v=HP
+ PostgreSQL.POSTGRESQL-LIB,r=A.01.00-7.3.1,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_64,v=HP,4
+ PostgreSQL.POSTGRESQL-RUN,r=A.01.00-7.3.1,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_64,v=HP,4
+ Secure_Shell.SECURE_SHELL,r=A.03.50.000,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP4
SysMgmtAgent.MX-AGENT,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP,f4
SysMgmtAgent.MX-ENG-MAN,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP4
SysMgmtServer.MX-CMS,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP,fr4
SysMgmtServer.MX-CORE,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP,f4
SysMgmtServer.MX-CORE-ARCH,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v4
SysMgmtServer.MX-ENG-MAN,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=H4
SysMgmtServer.MX-JRE,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP,fr4
SysMgmtServer.MX-PORTAL,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP4
SysMgmtServer.MX-REPO,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP,f4
SysMgmtServer.MX-TOOLS,r=C.04.01.00.01,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP,4
* A "+" indicates an automatic selection due to dependency or
the automatic selection of a patch or reference bundle.
* Selection succeeded.

* Beginning Analysis and Execution
* Session selections have been saved in the file
"/.sw/sessions/swinstall.last".
* "hpig01:/": 3 filesets have the selected revision already
installed.
* "hpig01:/": 1 bundles have the selected revision already
installed.
* "hpig01:/": 1 bundles cannot be installed because none of
their filesets can be installed.
* "hpig01:/": 4 filesets were determined to be skipped in the
analysis phase.
* Analysis and Execution succeeded.
