To add to the above - I have removed the other Insight manager databases - and extended the role of the DOMAIN\Administrator account - the SQL logs show successful connection from trusted source during the install attempt - but the install still fails with "database initialization failed" The database is local so I tried doing the install with the local computers administrator account - this too ended with Database init failure ...
The installation log is not very helpful
only shows:

Install Started.
Error:Database initialization failed
Error:Installation failed.

Again - any thoughts appreciated.

Edward

Hi All, I am upgrading from Insight mgr 7 to HP SIM and during the install of systems insight manager I get a 'Database initialization failed" error -

I am using domain admin credentials, and I made sure that this account has permissions in SQL (I actually put him in all server roles just to test)

I have two existing Insight databases listed in there - but this account should have permission over them as well - these databases are from previous versions of IM

Any thoughts appreciated.

Edward
ebroo@phillips.com

Hi,
I am also getting the same error, but its not a upgrade its a new installation of SIM 4.2. I tried reinstalling MSDE but still the same problem. I tried installing CIM 7 again while creating the logs files it gave an error of creating the database INSIGHT_DB_V32 said it already exists I have to delete this database name from SQL folder, after which the installation was successful. U can also try this I am not sure whether this will solve the problem or not but still just a try....
thanks
Anand.
