Hi Rob,

No, ive deleted the C:\Compaq\vcagent before and tried to reinstall, but I still get the same problem.

There isnt a trust issue, there also isnt any problems connecting back onto the HP SIM server, they are on the same network. I am currently out of ideas.

The VCA was installed apart from the PSP.

I'll try and continue this with HP

Thanks anyway

Hi All,

I have setup all my servers with VCA agents, and they can all connect back to my VCRM server corectly, and update OK.

However, there is one server which VCA agent is not working. When I try to open the VCA options on the servers system management homepage, I simply receive a message saying:

The Version Control Agent encountered an error while obtaining the software and firmware inventory.

I cant even change the options on where to point the VCA to the VCRM.

I have checked the SNMP settings on the server, and they are correctly configured (exactly like the servers that work). I am also able to ping my VCRM server, and DNS works correctly.

Is there any reason why this just wont work? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the VCA many times, and rebooted each time. It seems like it cant find what software revisions are on the server itself.

Any ideas would much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Gabriel

Are you running it on a Windows server? I had a similiar problem with VCA on a Linux server, I got it to work eventually, all I did was used different versions of drivers / vca binaries.
Hello all

I still receive the same error, no matter what I do.

I have configured the malfunctioning server to exactly the same VCA agent settings that my other servers use, and still no luck.

I have raised a call with HP, but they are stumped as well.

Has anyone seen this error? Or have any other ideas?

Thanks again

Gabriel

Thanks for replying, still no luck however. I keep on getting the attached message (see previous post).

Is there any way of completely removing the VCA agent - as some registry files might have been corrupted? I ask this because no matter how many times I reinstall the agent (various versions), I immeadiatley receive the inventory error when opening it.

Thanks

Gabriel

Just a quick check, have you installed the entire softpaq (e.g. 7.10A) or just the agents from a particular softpaq?
It's recommended practise to install the entire softpaq.

Another possible test.
Try removing the VC Agent.
Reboot.
Check that the directory c:\compaq\vcagent has gone, if not rename it.
Reinstall the VC Agent.
