The Repository does not need SSH.

The UPS would need to send SNMP Traps to HPSIM, then you'd need a suitable MIB to decode the SNMP Trap.
Then you'd just set up e-mail notification based on the event category.

Outlook - no idea
SMS - others have done it but not me.
Hi
Here is a few questions from a novice:

1) When I try to install HP SIM from the 7.10 Management CD it fails in OpenSSH with the error message that there is a Cygwin installation on my server and the OpenSSH can not be installed on the same server as Cygwin. There is a IBM Tivoli Agent on the same server (which i think uses Cygwin). So my question is; can I use HPSIM without OpenSSH? What exactly is the usage for OpenSSH (I know that it installs things on remote systems, but what does it do for HP SIM more presice?)

2) The installation of Repository Manager failed as well. Do I need this ? What is it used for exactly ?

3) My client needs a customized e-mail sent from HP SIM on critical errors. The e-mail needs to be customized because it is sent to an SMS service. How can I customize the e-mail message so that it contains f.i. a username and password in the body of the mail ?

4) Is there anywhere to find a step-by-step guide on how to install HPSIM ? I have read all the documentation on the HP webpage, and it lacks examples on how to install HP SIM

5) How do I monitor Critical Events like diskspace, hardware-error etc. ?

Best Regards

Stein Waalen
Norway

.....and

6) How do I change the password on the Management Agents on the various servers. I do NOT have a valid installation anywhere, so the "copy some file from a valid installation" won`t work

Stein

I cannot 1 fully. But, HPSIM uses SSH to run remote tasks and also to run custom tasks. It's not essential by very useful.

2. The Respository Manager can be configured so that you download the latest HP Softpaqs etc. You can also set up an automatic download. This is then used both as a reference for if you're up to date and an installation base. It's something that adds a huge amount of value.

3. For this you'll need SSH as you'll want to run a custom command to take variables presented by HPSIM, rearrange and then pass on via an SMTP Mailer.

4. Installation guide is:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/5990-8181/5990-8181.html

5. However you want, you can set disk thresholds. You configure SNMP on Servers etc to send traps to HPSIM. HPSIM then alerts users based on event notification tasks.

6. Download a complete Softpaq. Run setup.exe. This will bring up the Remote Deployment Screen. In the LH Panel right click and configure the Agents. Passwords, Trust, Server certificates etc. Select a Server you can reboot. Select the Server in the RDU and Install. If the Agents are the same level, select the overwrite older versions in the RDU.
You should deploy the entire softpaq as they're tested bundles, not just the agents.

Thank you for your answer Rob

Additional questions:

2. Does Repository Manager need SSH ?

3. Has anyone tried to use Outlook as the custom creator? F.i. send the standard-mail from HPSIM, and then add changes to the mail through rules in Outlook ?

4. Ahh.......thanx !

7. How can I configure alerts and monitoring of UPS through HPSIM ?

8. Has anyone connected a modem to a HPSIM server and used it to send SMS ?

Once again, thank you very much for your answers !
