Add new System Type

Our Network Operations Center has been asked to begin monitoring some IP based telephone equipment (PBX's and voicemail systems). We have added the devices to SIM but there is not a system type that is appropriate for our purpose.

What I really need to do is add a "Telecommunications" system type to SIM. Is there a way to do that?

If the devices support SNMP you can add the new system types by going to Options --> Discovery --> Manage System Types.

I see how that tool can be used to assign an existing system type to a device, but that's not what I need to do. What I need to do is create a new system type for assignment. Could you clarify how I can do this?

Unfortunately the system types and subtypes are predefined. You can only define new product model names.
