this is the 3rd time that I have gotten runtime errors when Trying to create a new task.

I manually add 1 or 2 servers and then I create notification tasks. I then import the other 350 servers with a hosts file and when I try to create a new task I get runtime errors.

I have to uninstall HPSIM7 and re-install then add a couple server create the task, this time I searched by IP ranges and was able to add other taks. it has been a week now and when I tried to create another task I get the runtime error again.

Has anybody else run into this issue before?

Another poster seemed to get problems after doing a manual add.
My question there was why do you prefer to manually add Servers rather than add the appropriate IP Addresses into the Autodiscovery ranges and run autodiscovery and device identification tasks.

This just seems to be an easier way of managing IM rather than always manually adding servers. If the IP ranges cover current and the addresses new servers will get then there's no additional work to be done.

What do you mean by an Auto-Import?

Under the Options / Discovery AutoDiscovery I just have ranges like:

10.10.14.1-10.10.14.254

in the Ping Inclusion ranges.

Auto-dicovery will find any device in this range.
The device identifcation task will then use SNMP to try and identify the device.

You can also exclude selected IP Addresses or ranges.

Sorry, I may have used the wrong term. I meant an auto-discovery but instead of searching an IP range I used a Hosts file with all the servers on our network, which wouldn't allow me to create new tasks immediately after. I then searched IP ranges which seemed to work for a week but now I am getting the runtime errors again.

I to had constant problems with trying to create tasks and setup the version control repository.

I even re-imaged my server twice using both SQL and MSDE, but had the same results every time. My final fix.....install server 2003 and now HPSIM works like a champ.

Mike B.
