Hello,

I have gone through all our servers and set up the VC agent on each one. I got green ticks/yellow warning icons on SIM in the right places which was great.

However if I restart one of the monitored servers and run another "Data Collection" task on it the green tick/yellow warning icon changes to a blue question mark and the tool-tip states "VC Agent not configured".

I then visit the VC Agent web page on the monitored server and all the correct settings are in place. If i save the settings again and run another Data Collection task i get the green tick back.

This isn't very good as we don't want to lose this information everytime we restart a server!

Anyone know of a way to resolve this issue?

It sounds like your SNMP is not setup correctly for write priveliges.

IIRC - even the community name is case sensitive.

I have just checked and our SNMP settings are correct.

I have even set the read string permissions to write as well as a test but this did not have any effect.

John,

A valid trust relationship needs to exist between the CMS and the managed servers. Using "Trust by Certificate" is the most secure and reliable method.

Also, confirm that all of the services - especially the Version Control Agents, and all of the HP Management Agents - are running before running the Data Collection task. You can visit the system home page at http://sysname:2301 to make sure that you have a link to that VCA.

Is there anything between the CMS and the Managed Servers which would be blocking ports 2301 or 2381?

Good luck,
- Steve
let me make it clear that the data collection does work.
after the server has it's trust set up using certificate and the vc agent has been set up correctly, a data collection will work and return the correct results.

The problem is that when we restart the monitored server and run another data collection, the software status changes to a blue question mark (vc agent not configured)

This is a known bug with the VC agent and SIM. The trust between the management server and the agent breaks. Call HP support and ask for the SIM patch.
