Where is the CMS? I am trying to install it
on Windows 2000 pc, I downloaded 4.2 and ran
the install of the file T2415BA_4.02.00_Win.exe

If I go to http://localhost:280 (trying various
things for localhost) the CMS server is not there - can't find a seperate windows CMS download or see how to do in in the above install - it did seem to install something at
https://localhost:2381/ but I think this is just the management system that goes on all monitored servers ...

I believe the server you installed SIM4.2 on "is" the CMS (Central Management Server). https://localhost:2381 will the that server's System Management Homepage (yes you were right the other clients will have their own SMH also) only the one you installed SIM4.2 on will overall have more information and will have the Version Control Repository Manager links etc..
I'm kind of a newby myself so someone let me know if I'm wrong.

Hi -

Are we talking about a green icon with
one pc on it, or a blue one with two? The
blue one just launches a window with a timer on it and counts up - the window says "HP Systems Insight Manager Check Service". The
green icon launches the screenprin that I attach here - no toolbar, no menus, no system and event lists - I don't get it -
any help welcome ...

Okay -

The blue one just launches a timer on a screen that clocks. I went to remove software and removed the 2 runtime java components I had installed (saw from another post). I am running windows 2000, not 2000 server or 2003 server. Do I have to run
this on a server? Maybe that's the problem.
I looked over chapter 3 of the install, and the realease notes, and the on-line training, and non of these says specifically that you have to have a 2000 or 2003 server for your CMS ....

The countdown timer is trying checking to make sure the web services are running. I have found nothing that says it will run on Windows 2000 Pro, but have found Windows XP listed. Make sure you are at SP4. Version control states Pro is fine.

It loads its own web services, but if you want to use the VPM pieces you will need Windows 2000 server or higher because it uses IIS.

Might want to load it on a Windows 2000 Server, and go from there.

I tried installing it on XP, and it did NOT work. I had issues with the MSDE though...

You may be having issues with the WEB part on 2000.

Hi -

Yup, never try and run this on just plain win2000. Ran it on a win2003 server and
*wham* there it is.

Thanks for the responses -

Tom
