HPSIM 4.2 was activated earlier this week and things seemed to be running ok until this afternoon.

All of a sudden we're receiving a flood of email on old alerts. Based on the EVENTS RECEIVED field in the alert, it's seems it is resending every alert it had previously generated during our testing phase.

I'm fairly certain it isn't an SMTP relay issue since the HPSIM console shows the alerting task ran with the several hundred alerts.

And yes, this isn't related to either of these 2 issues:

HPSIM 4.2 Polling Sensitivity Question - this thread has been closed
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=762032

Email Flood
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=793895

Any suggestions on solution or workaround is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Sorry for the 2nd post, but I realized I could've provided more info.

4.2 is a fresh install, not an upgraded one from any previous version. The data is all newly discovered and not imported.

SIM runs on a DL380 G2 and Win2003 Std and the database is on a DL380 G3 running SQL 2000 Std on Win2003 Std.
we have the same problem. upgrade 4.1 => 4.2. after this we got 1000 of old alerts and we have also the problem that SIM is thinking that some server are unreachable and 5 sec. later they are reachable. and this many times a day.
i tried today the following:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=762032
the problems with the unreachable / reachable are away but we got again 200 old mails (and more).

need a workaround or a patch imedatly.

thanks
christian

Hi I am having the exact issue all of a sudden.

We had this problem with 4.1, I upgraded to 4.2 sp1 which helped for about a week. I then rebuilt completely with 4.2 sp1 and it worked great for a few months, but today has spat out 4000 in 30 minutes.

the db is not running at capacity, nor have any of the other solutions suggested in the forum helped.

Any ideas HP ??

HP has released SP2 for HPSIM 4.2. This has got a fix for the issue that you face. So applying this patch will immediately solve your problem.
