My HPSIM 4.2 seems to have the email storm issue which should be resolved in this issue.
Sometime all outdated events are mailed again.

How can we proceed?

Do you have any ideas why it did this? Did it just send out the storm while nothing else was going on or did you maybe make some changes in HPSIM that caused it?

Basically we're trying to track down what caused it.

It seems that this behaviour occurs when the automatic discovery runs and the time before some machines have been renamed.

The weired thing is that a large amount of the mails are from a machine called orphan_..... but you cannot see any machine with this name in the HPSIM.

To give you an idea of our installation. The HPSIM 4.2 is installed on a W2k3 Server Standard English with an actual patch level. The database is located on a SQL Server 2000.

Have this problem aswell. Spoke to someone at HP who confirmed it was still a problem in 4.2.

Anyone know where they are likely to post a fix when there is one? I don't know where to check..........

Rather than post the same data in multiple threads I'll just post it here. This is additional data to my original post last week. http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=797077

The email flood I had last week was for all my old alerts. This weekend the same email flood occurred but only the alerts from this week were resent and did not resend all the ones it had sent out last weekend.

It does seem to happen after the weekly discovery runs but not exactly at that point. Last week the discovery ran at 11:00 PM and the alerts came at midnight. This week I had moved the discovery to 4:00 PM and the alerts came at 2:00 AM.

We have an on-call rotation and last week was my week so the email blast, however annoying, was acceptable. This week, the on-call person has already given me some polite needling. If this continues, I may be forced to go back to my CIM32.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Kevin
