Scott, tried your suggestion and I received the following screenshot that references an error. It mentions to look at the log file for more details but doesn't say where the log is located.....

Was aware of the problems with loading software with the TS client.....I only use it for admin type functions and never to install software.

Same thing happened here, too. I ended up manually installing VCRM by running \VCREP\CP003929.EXE from the install media. (In my case, it was the downloaded ZIP file.)

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I also had to manually go into my Services and start the Version Control Repository Manager. It's set to start Automatically, but for some reason it didn't with mine. Once I started it, everything worked fine.

Greg,
Out of interest were you installing SIM via Terminal Services or directly?

Just there was a similar issue with CIM 7 which didn't install the PPA from a TS install Session. Just wondering if this is a similar thing as those of us previously burnt would've installed SIM directly.

You could try looking in

C:CPQSYSTEM\log\cpqsetup.log which contains the various installs of components. Not too sure if it contains the IM install itself.

Maybe just try checking the protections on any existing xml files. I'm guessing obviously!

Thomas:

As you know, what ties a ProLiant Support Pack together is XML. Whether installing the PSP through the setup.exe, setupc.exe, setupex.exe or using the VCRM, the Microsoft XML parser is used to navigate the XML and pull it apart. The MSXML3 DLLs are shipped with VCRM and the PSP to install themselves if you don't already have them on your system.

The screenshot you have attached seems to directly relate to the MSXML3 installation failing, and because it's happening behind the VCRM install, the real reason probably is being masked.

Here is one thing you could try. However, make sure you have your system backed up before you do this--if the drives are mirrored, maybe yank one of them to fall back to if something bad happens.

You can try to manually install the MSXML3 code and see if you get better diagnostics around why it fails. If it doesn't fail, great. You should be able to restart the VCRM install and it should detect the presence of the MS parser and leave it alone and then hopefully install fine.

You can download MSXML3 in an installable form (we just give you the .cab in the PSP) from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=c0f86022-2d4c-4162-8fb8-66bfc12f32b0&languageid=f49e8428-7071-4979-8a67-3cffcb0c2524&displaylang=en
Well , I dwnloaded and tried to install VCRM, to find out that it needs IE 5.5 or above..fair enough.Thats probably why it didnt install when installing SIM for the 1st time. Have upgraded to IE6 sp1 and the VCRM installed Ok. But now find that "Hp insight manager Web Agent" service hangs and when running VCR in SIM I get "http status 500 " error any ideas on :
1)possible causes for Web agent service hanging
2)vcrm error ?

thanks

Greg -

If I'm recommending that you uninstall SIM and VCRM and redo the installation. Since you have IE 6.1 installed now, Let SIM installation perform both SIM and VCRM.
