How can I connect external Hard Disk withStoreOnce HPE 3640 48TB

I have StoreOnce HPE 3640 TB, and I want to connect external hard disk to be able to take backup as an option for my client, how can I do it and what need to do this?

I don't think StoreOnce 3640 supports external hard disks to backup data.

Hello @Mohammadsaeed01,

Your StoreOnce system can emulate Virtual Tape Library (VTL). This is a disk based virtual tape library that you can configure with easy steps and use.

But I don't think it is possible to connect to another real tape library from the StoreOnce system.

Could you refer me a document can explain VTL? Does it mean I can connect external Hard disk and make it as VTL ?

There is no other solution can connect external Tape Library with StoreOnce 3640 model?

please tell , what is your main goal when trying to connect external devices to SO?
Do you want to upload backups from SO to external devices?

If so, what backup software are you using?

The client wants to copy from SO to external devices, the client uses Acronis.

You can try replication to another device (supported by acronis) orchestrated by Acronis.

Indeed, you can connect an external disk or tape drive to any storage node and replicate backups using Acronis.

How do you use StoreOnce in conjunction with the Acronis? There is no Acronis and Catalyst compatibility in the StoreOnce compatibility matrix. Only with StoreOnce VTL or StoreOnce NFS Share can working Acronis Cyber Backup Advanced.

According to the replication documentation, you can create a backup on a network folder (StoreOnce NFS Share) and then replicate it to an external tape drive for example.

Hello @Mohammadsaeed01,

The USB ports you see on your StoreOnce is just for using as OS drives. They are not for external drives. I don't think you can copy data to an external HDD with or without Acronis.

No, it's not possible - connect a Tape Library in SO, then copy the backup to Tape Library from SO itself without acronis (backup software).

All backups are managed by backup software outside the StoreOnce device, with the exception of replication of NAS and VTL carried out between StoreOnce devices.

It is not possible to directly connect the tape library and SO3640. This is done through the storage node, if we are talking

about the Acronis. And as previously written, based on the Acronis policies, you can transfer backups from one device to another.

@Mohammadsaeed01 Yes, the tape library must be connected as a separate element either to the storage network (SAN) or directly to the Acronis storage server.

About external HDD - you can use StoreOnce NAS share for backups. In this case share can visible on the backup host like a folder. All backups to the this shared folder you can create by the internal commands of the application whose backup you are creating (MS SQL, Oracle ..) or the utilities of the operating system (file copy). Do not use compressing or encryption during backups to the StoreOnce NAS share.

In this case you can connect your external HDD to the backup host and copy objects from shared folder to folder on the external HDD using the utilities of the operating system.
