Housekeeping is the process of reclaiming the physical space after the data has been identified as expired or deleted by backup software. Among the deduplicated data, any unique chunks of data will be marked for removal. And non-unique chunks are de-referenced and their reference count will be decremented.
You cannot manually start the housekeeping task. It is a low priority system task, which will start when the system resources are available. So, the best practice is to allow housekeeping time to run by avoiding continuous scheduled backup and copy jobs.

If you are experiencing an already high pending housekeeping queue, allow more time with no backups and copy jobs until the housekeeping jobs are processed.
Combining a common data type in a common VT library, NAS shares or Catalyst Store helps you to improve deduplication ratio and efficient utilization of the physical space. 
Please Note: After a power cycle, the start of housekeeping tasks is delayed for 15 minutes. As housekeeping resumes, the housekeeping queue is recalculated.
