VLS 6100 automigration option not available

Hi,
We have two VLS 6100 and we plan to use it for disk backup
the AUTOMIGRATION option is not appearing on the VLS GUI

So am Asking if we upgrade the firmware version did this option appear or we should go for another VLS model

This harware is out of warranty and HP ca't give us online support

Firmware Version used now is 1.0.12 old one and should be upgraded

My seconds questions is can we download the new firmware from HP site as for this model no more option on HP site

Hello, took me a while to find but if you look in the quickspecs of the VLS 6000:

"The HP StorageWorks 6200 and 6600 Virtual Library Systems support Automigration. "

Looks like you need to run VLS firmware 2.x to get automigration, and the 6100 only goes to 1.2.0

Here is the 1.2.0 firmware:

This doesn't have the word "migration" at all.

From the firmware Prerequisites it like to go to the 1.2.0 you have to be at least with 1.1.0

and the 1.1.0 version is not available from the revision history

any idea about that pls

I will try to upgrade to 1.1.0 as for that it can't be done by GUI and I will try also to go to the latest one

then problem is when I downloaded the ISO compressed file

When Iam trying to boot with the CD I get drive failer
R (retry) A(Abort) F(FAIL)

I changed the external CD drive two times but still showing the same error

so am not able to upgrade to the latest one because am stuck in 1.0.12

Server used with the VLS is running LINUX redhat any Ideas on how we can run the upgrade on diffrent way?

But, does the CD start to load it at all?

If you put the disk in another machine, like a desktop, do you see anything on it?

I just tried to mount the .ISO on my desktop and I can see files on it.

Hi

Yes the CD start and you can get this option
R to restore and Q to Quit when you press R
to start restoring the full operation failed and give you this choices to abort or retry or fail

So I tried to boot from another devices like USB key but system is not discovering

So strange.
Maybe there is a problem with the downloaded ISO or disc? As far as I can tell you have to use the QR disc to do the upgrade.

It would be so nice if HP had md5sums for the downloads.

And just to confirm, is it a 6105 or 6109 that you have?

Hi Johan,

I used the same source that you sent me recenlty to download the file

file is compressed iso image and I burn the CD with the same option (ISO)

and I used two CD driver models just to be sure that this is not a hardware issue

VLS model is 6100

Why are you saying compressed ISO?

The size of my download is

605 MB (634 558 464 bytes)
605 MB (634 560 512 bytes)

But as the CD boots I guess the disc should be OK.. but it's hard to tell.

Same size I have also

its arround 605 MB compressed (RAR file)

this hardware is out of warranty but I have one operation to upgrade our SAN switches may be I will include it on the same

Winrar does too I believe.
Maybe that also changes the icon of the .iso into a rar, fooling some that it may be compressed :)
