Hello,

We have a c3000 enclosure with a number of bl460 g6 blades in it.

We are trying to find a way to connect external storage via USB and have it available to our ESX 4.1 environment to use.

can this be done?

Good storage solution for G6 blades is HP D2200sb Storage Blade with HP P4000 Virtual SAN Appliance (VSA). See quic spec

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13714_div/13714_div.HTML

You can get access to an external USB port by attaching a dongle to the SUV connector on the front of each BL460c G6 blade.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=416003-001

I don't know if ESX 4.1 would handle USB-based storage, though.
...but be aware that the SUV dongle is not intended for permanent attachment. Over time due to the fact that it is not supported by weight it can damage the connector and require an MLB replacement.
