On a BL460C, I have taken delivery of a blade, which is now over specified on RAM for a project. The blade currently has 10GB(2*4G, 2*1G). I notice the RAM types are in pairs in slots 1&3, 5&7.

I was wondering
-do RAM types always have to be in pairs or can they be stand alone.
-do you always have to have identical RAM types in each pair.

Had a look at the service and maintenance guide, but there is no mention of this.

RAM must be in pairs
Yes You must have identical types in each pair.

Check the blade metal cover...there You find the memory rules.
