Good Afternoon

We have some problems with several BL20P G3 blade server.

OS is windows server 2003 sp2, latest psp installed. if we copy files from this server to a remote system nic performance is very slow (nearly 1h for a 2gb file). if we copy data from the remote server to this system, performance is good (about 30s for a 2gb file) in most cases this is a duplex problem. but we did check and change duplex settings on the nic and on the switch. we did change nic and switch port, did change network cable, did place the os disks into another bl20p without any change... it looks like a driver or os related problem. is there any know issue?

thanks
regards
andre

Andre:

a lot of factors involved here...

I would start out by looking at the HP Network Configuration Utility and going to the properties of the blade NIC in question and clicking the Statistics Tab. Check for any errors that you might be seeing. Also, check the switch ports that are in the path between the blade server and the remote system.

Probably also want to try the latest version of drivers on the system.

Hi!

We had a similar problem where it worked from some networks and not for others. It turned out to be TCP Chimney pack that was implementet as default "on" in windows 2003 SP2.

This is only a problem with systems that support for TCP Offload on the NICs.

you can turn thoose off in registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

"EnableTCPChimney"=dword:00000000

I would also recommend you to turn off RSS and TCPA at same place

"EnableTCPA"=dword:00000000
"EnableRSS"=dword:00000000
Hi

We have solved the problem some weeks ago. you have to disable the "large send offload" on the NIC (driver). After that, reboot the box and the performance is as it should be

regards
andre
