We have two BL870 blades running hpux 11.31.
Each blade has 2 dual-core CPUs. Can we move one dual-core CPU from one blade and add to the other blade? I haven't opened blades yet since they are up running but want to get some input from you first.

Thanks in advance,

RN

Shalom idt,

I would not do this myself.

I would engage HP hardware service for this. The blades are small and delicate and its possible the CPU's need to be paired.

SEP

... blades are small ...

Not really, at least this model ;-)

However, ask HP is a good suggestion, but there isn't a real problem to move the CPU.

Just make sure they are identical!

Sure you can do it, as long as your're sure you're willing to take responsibility for making any mistakes. We had a HP CE replace a CPU in a BL860c and he not only trashed the replacement CPU, he cooked the system board too. Turns out he was a Intel CE and wasn't familiar with the ins and outs of this piece of h/w.

Here's a link to the Bl870c Support Manual, check the Removing and Replacing Components section. There's slide bar that has to moved to gain access to the ZIF socket lock, pgs 22-25.

Beers,

robert
