I use Drive Erase. It has a bootable CD that allows you to target all partitions and remove them then DOD level erase.

Does anyone know how to scrub the disks on a blade in order to return the blade back to HP?

Is there some tool that can be booted and used for that?

Hi.

There are many tools that can erase a harddrive. The trick is to know wich ones are good.. haven't made much research into this but here is a link with an example of one tool.

http://www.krollontrack.com/information-management/data-erasure-solutions/

DBAN works for us

http://www.dban.org/download

You can download the .iso and boot the server mounting it from the ILO.

How about just deleting the raid set(s) and then creating one from all the drives? Then for the fun of it swap some of the drives between the severs.

It all depends on what level of data security that is demanded of you and what bussiness your in. As i'm in the healthcare bussiness there can be no data leaving the data center.

But deleting the raid sets and creating a new one just makes it a bit harder to get the data from them. And swaping drives between servers, well first off what about if you only gonna send one server back?

with most Applikations write Zeros in different patterns over the disk most important is to do it more than one time.

If the blade has a smart array controller and if you have Smart array advanced pack their are three phases of erase that you can opt for .

If you would like something that is free and non HP I would say go for Hiren's Boot CD , I have been using it since many years !
