Proliant BL460c G1 memory upgrades

Hi

I have two sets of BL460c G1s with these memory configurations that I need to upgrade.

DIMM 1A : 1024 MB 667 MHz
DIMM 2C : 1024 MB 667 MHz
DIMM 3A : 1024 MB 667 MHz
DIMM 4C : 1024 MB 667 MHz
DIMM 5B : not installed
DIMM 6D : not installed
DIMM 7B : not installed
DIMM 8D : not installed

and

DIMM 1A : 2048 MB 667 MHz
DIMM 2C : not installed
DIMM 3A : 2048 MB 667 MHz
DIMM 4C : not installed
DIMM 5B : not installed
DIMM 6D : not installed
DIMM 7B : not installed
DIMM 8D : not installed

I’m not going to be using online spares or mirrored memory.

The first set of servers (with the 1GB modules) need an extra 4GB.

I plan is to install a (standard energy consumption) 2x2GB memory module pack in these.

The second set of servers (with the 2GB modules) need an extra 12GB.

I plan to install a (standard energy consumption) 2x2GB memory module pack in these along with a (standard energy consumption) 2x4GB memory module pack.

I have done a similar process for some DL380 G5s but the documentation for the BL460c G1s seems to be less easy to find. If anyone knows the link to the Quickspecs I’d appreciate it being published.

Also, if anyone can advise on the part numbers for the two module packs I would be grateful.

As an aside, looking at the way the existing modules are installed, if the Blades are like the DL380 G5s, they are in the wrong sockets for Advanced ECC. I reckon that they should be in A and B, not in A and C. Does anyone agree or disagree ?

I trust that the servers should end up with matched pairs in A, B and C and in A, B, C and D ?

Advanced ECC memory
Advanced ECC memory is the default memory protection mode for this server blade. In Advanced ECC,
the server blade is protected against correctable memory errors. The server blade provides notification if
the level of correctable errors exceeds a pre-defined threshold rate. The server blade does not fail
because of correctable memory errors. Advanced ECC provides additional protection over Standard ECC
because it is possible to correct certain memory errors that would otherwise be uncorrectable and result in
a server blade failure.
Whereas standard ECC can correct single-bit memory errors, Advanced ECC can correct single-bit
memory errors and multi-bit memory errors if all failed bits are on the same DRAM device on the
FBDIMM.
In addition to general configuration requirements, Advanced ECC memory also has the following
configuration requirements:
â ¢ FBDIMMs must be installed in pairs.
â ¢ FBDIMMs must be installed in sequential order, beginning with bank A.
In Advanced ECC mode, FBDIMMs must be populated as specified in the following table:

Thanks gents. I may actually have already seen that info. I'd considered that maybe they don't call a first generation server a 'G1' but I wasn't sure.

The thing that puzzles me though is that there is no mention of the server Product ID (435458-B21) in those linked articles. Is it not reasonable to see it in there somewhere ?

I really appreciate the prompt responses and I will be sure to follow the guide that has been linked to.

quickspecs can be a bit off date but part surfer is good to verify any queries

you can verify servers and parts etc here
use this format if looking by server name bl460c g1

or this nr 435458-B21

Thanks guys. I combined the PartSurfer with the HP Supplies Memory finder. I got all work done now thanks but as soon as I filed the parts listing, someone added another server.

This one is interesting as although it is a BL460c G1, the Product ID is 435488-b21 which is not like any of the others.

Putting that number into PartSurfer fails to find anything and there isn't even anything showing from a search of the full HP site or even in Google ! What gives ?

I should add that all of the other BL460c G1s have a part number of 435458-B21. I wonder if this curious server has a typo in the Product ID. After all, they didn't use an upper case 'B' either.

A search for '435458' in PartSurfer brings up two servers including my others.

A search for '435488' in PartSurfer brings up nothing.

Hello, add memory to free slosts. If you need exactly 32GB ram, you need remove some 2GB modules.

You can use 4GB or 8GB modules.
